The ENORMITY of Small

What is a MicrOringSeal?
A MicrOring seal is an o-ring than measures less than .039 inch (1.0 mm) on the inside diameter or cross section. MicrOrings from Apple Rubber can be as small as .008 inch (.20 mm) — the smallest o-ring in the world.

A custom composite MicroSeal™ combines the structural advantages of metal or plastic with the sealing performance of an elastomer. This can ease installation and reduce assembly costs.

Because these parts are small, there are BIG issues with quality assurance. Having testing equipment and systems available is especially important, because visual inspection can be difficult.

AppleLab™ offers the following tools (and many more) to help you with your miniature sealing solutions:

Avant Video Measuring System – This non-contact measuring equipment uses the latest optical, video, and image processing technologies to accurately measure parts without distortion and provides statistical process control data.

FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer) – Determines chemical make-up of rubber compounds both before and after molding. This ensures the consistency of rubber compounds and seals batch to batch, shipment to shipment.

Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA) – Accurately determines the relative chemical content of materials and their thermal stability at temperatures up to 1,000ºC.
