If you can believe it, the end-of-year holidays are just around the corner. While you might be busy shopping or sending out party invitations, there’s one thing unlikely to be on your mind: rubber. But from decorations to tires, even if you’re not thinking about rubber, chances are it’s helping your holiday plans run smoothly.
Rubber in the Celebrations
You or someone you know probably tend to go overboard with holiday decorations. Maybe it’s a fully decorated Christmas tree or festive party invites. The common factor among these end-of-year celebrations and traditions is rubber.
Take Christmas trees, for example. They’re often adorned with ornaments made of rubber in some cases. These can replace fragile glass ornaments to reduce breakage if they drop. Rubber is also used in protective caps and feet at the base of trees to help them stand upright and provide support.
The holiday season is also heavy on postcards and letters. Rubber stamps with custom or preconfigured images or text can be used to add holiday cheer or a personal touch to plain cards, envelopes, or gift tags. They’re also great for invitations to holiday events you might be hosting.
Supply and Demand
During these holiday weeks, trucks and cars with rubber tires are everywhere. Whether on semi-trucks transporting gifts or SUVs taking family and friends to celebrations, rubber keeps things rolling.
Rubber isn’t just on the road. Wheels on suitcases and luggage often incorporate rubber tires, which help resist shock and wear when dragged across streets, sidewalks, or airport floors. These bags may also have rubber reinforcements on the outside for added durability.
Winter Apparel
Staying safe and warm when it gets cold is important. Rubber boots are a seasonally iconic piece of winter clothing. They offer grip on icy sidewalks and streets and act as a waterproof barrier to keep feet dry.
Rubber also appears in winter coats, often in the outer fabric to create a waterproof layer. Some coats have rubberized materials between layers for extra dryness. Jackets may also feature small rubber strips as wind guards, and elastic cuffs help block cold air from slipping in around the wrists.
