Apple Rubber Item Numbers for O-Rings

AR_HotTopic_Item#Oring (1)

In 2007, Apple Rubber implemented a new ERP system to provide inventory control across all areas of manufacturing and distribution. Since most of our item numbers are O-rings, we developed our current O-ring naming system. This allows us to perform quick searches and ensures consistency in our O-ring item numbers.

O-Ring Sizing
O-ring sizes are traditionally specified by inner diameter (I.D.) and cross-section (C.S.). Therefore, when requesting a size, it is given as .239” x .070”. In this notation, .239 is the inner diameter and .070 is the cross-section, which yields an outer diameter of .379”. AS568 and ISO 3601 are industry standards for the O-ring industry. AS568-010 corresponds to .239” x .070” or 6.07 mm x 1.78 mm for ISO 3601.

For any size callout, there should be a material callout. This should include the Shore A durometer, polymer, and color. For an NBR material, we would use 70 Shore A, BUNA-N (NBR), Black.

Apple Rubber O-Ring Item Number
Using the AS568-010 callout, the following would be Apple Rubber’s item number:
R00239-070-70BNB

R – We use R to signify the O-ring.

00239 – The first five characters are for the inner diameter of the O-ring (in Inches).

-070 – The next three characters are for the O-ring cross section (in Inches).

-70 – Shore A durometer for the rubber compound used.

B – Designates color (B – BLACK, C – CLEAR, R – RED, G – GREEN, Z – SPECIAL COLOR).

For the O-ring description, we will use the AS568 callout or provide the O-ring dimensions. For this example, the description would be “AS568-010 70 Buna-N Black” or omit “Black” since that is standard for the polymer.

Special Prefixes for O-Rings
-MED – O-rings made with medical-grade materials and processed through our cleanroom.

-QC+ – Higher level of inspection and material testing.

-FDA – Food-grade material used.

-UL – Material used has been certified by UL and is listed under our file JMLU2.MH14216.

-PKG – O-rings are packaged to a specific number of parts per bag.

-TRD – Mold has been textured to help reduce surface friction.

-LUTE – Material uses self-lubrication additives.

-IN – Special inspection or packaging.

-CTPC – Coated with parylene.

-CTTC – Coated with PTFE Clear.

Other Examples Using a Similar Format
F00239-070-70EPB: F is for FilterSeal™ with an O-ring profile with a filter material in the inside diameter.

S00434-040-75VTB-SPEC-IN: “S” O-rings use a customer-supplied material. Sold only to the company that supplies the material.

G00075-197-030-40SLB: “G” flat gaskets. The first set of numbers is the Inner Diameter, the second set is the Outer Diameter, and the third set is the thickness. The rest of the designation is like an O-ring for material callouts.

Apple Rubber carries a vast inventory of O-rings in various sizes, materials, and hardness levels. Use our Size Search Tool on our website to check available inventory—we update this monthly for in-stock sizes.

If you can’t find the size you need, contact us to see if a tool exists even if it’s not in current inventory. If necessary, our In-House Mold Shop can quickly produce O-ring tools to meet your request.
